                                                                                    Issue No. 1103-1

CHAIRMAN’S CORNER

PARTICIPATION/ADVANCEMENT
I urge all parents to talk to their sons about their progress, as this will help Mr. Shields and Mr. Andrzejewski when they talk to the Scouts about their progress.

Participation in Troop meetings, Campouts and activities are important part of the Boy Scout Advancement Program Requirements.  While we are mindful of the many different school and sports activities in which the boys participate, your son’s participation in the Troop's program is necessary in order for him to advance.

Leadership is an important requirement, for Scouts seeking to earn the ranks of Star, Life and Eagle.  Each Scout is required to demonstrate at the Board of Review that, to the best of his ability, he actively fulfilled this requirement.

I would also remind all Eagle Candidates that they should get their project ideas approved by the their Advisor, Troop Advancement Chairman and Scoutmaster and then the District Eagle Board Chairman as soon as possible

EAGLE COURT OF HONOR
All of our Scout Families are reminded that we would like all of our Scouts and their families to attend the Eagle Scout Court of Honor scheduled for MARCH 14, 2004. As of the date of this newsletter we will be presenting the Eagle Scout Award to Dan Noonan and Joe Leahy, Troop 332's 101st and 102nd Eagle Scouts. The Breakfast will begin at 10 AM in St. Raymond's School Cafeteria. All Catholic Scouts are urged to attend the 9 AM Mass. ALL SCOUTS ATTENDING WILL BE RECOGNIZED WITH AN AWARD(S) ON THIS DAY. The Troop puts out a Journal for this Court of Honor and we ask that each family to help solicit advertisements for the Journal. The Troop will soon be sending out letters to each Scout Family, with further information on our Journal and Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

TREASURE ISLAND SUMMER CAMP July 4-10, 2004
I am pleased to announce that the Troop will be attending TI during the week of July 4-10, 2004.  The cost this year will be $230 per Scout and $50 per Adult.  A $50 deposit, for each Scout AND Adult leader, payable to Troop 332, is due by February 6, 2004. The fee balance of $180 per scout is due April 23, 2004 (Adults pay only the $50 deposit). Parents may sign up as adult leaders for all or part of the week. More information will be forthcoming.

FUNDRAISING
POPCORN - I want to thank all of the Scouts and Leaders who participated in the Council and Troop Popcorn sales campaign. We topped last year's totals.  Council still has a limited supply of popcorn, if you wish to order additional popcorn, let me know right away. Please turn in all popcorn order money by December 5th. BULLY!

DEPOSIT BOTTLES AND CANS - A reminder to all to continue to bring deposit bottles and cans to Troop Meetings. This is an ongoing, year round campaign. Remember to put your names on/in the bags (This is important so that your son can be presented with a participation patch.
Lately, the numbers of Scouts participating has fallen off considerably. This fundraising activity keeps allows us to fund our advancement awards. It also keeps us from having to ask your sons to participate in a Troop sales campaign in addition to the Popcorn Sales that benefit both our Scout Council and Troop.

VOLUNTEERS
I want to thank all of the adults who have volunteered  their time to make the Troop's program a success. A Hearty BULLY!!! to all volunteers.

     Thanks, Chairman Ed

Scoutmaster's Minute

There are certain protocols for wearing the Boy Scout uniform and there are various times that different uniforms are to be worn at the various Scout functions.  Please see the attached papers regarding the specific policy of Troop 332 as regards the official Boy Scout uniform.

Is has come to my attention these past few Scoutmaster's Conferences and Boards of Review that there have been problems regarding the Boy Scout Sash and the Merit Badges required for the ranks of Star Scout and Life Scout.

Therefore, the policy for Scoutmaster's Conferences and Board's of Review for these ranks will include the following:  Scout's must present to the Scoutmaster either the Merit Badge Blue Cards with Signature or the Merit Badge Cards themselves along with the Scout Handbook that would include the Merit Badges to be used for that rank advancement.   The Merit Badge Sash "WILL" be worn for all Star and Life Conferences and Board's of Review without exception.  This is not a change in any policy, it is an enforcement of the policy.  These requirements are not meant to make anything more difficult, they are meant to prevent a possible problem with future advancement.

A note about Camping.    "Outing" is part of Scouting.   We had a terrific time at the Boston Area hikes and the past Chapel Weekend was as terrific.   We could have seen more Scouts there.  Remember that you need to be on one of the troops outings just prior to any advancement.  Our next activity will be either the Nathan Hale Trail in Huntington or the Hempstead Town Historic Trail here at home.  Remember that the Hempstead Town Historic Trail is sponsored by our Troop.  The cost of that trail if free, except for Medals and Patches.  The cost of the Nathan Hale trail will be mentioned at the troop meetings.  The Nathan Hale Trail is open only to Scouts and Leader’s, the Town of Hempstead Trail is open to anyone, including entire families.

Both are two-day hikes, but with the Huntington trail you must overnight there.  Our trail, you can sleep at home and return the next morning to finish.   It might be cold in December.  See Mr. Ezagui for details.  Please sign up early.

Service

Participating in service projects to benefit the community is a vital part of scouting. Troop 332 is involved in various service projects throughout the year enabling the boys to meet their requirements for rank advancement, fulfill certain school obligations but, most importantly, instill a sense of responsibility toward our neighbors and community organizations.

An on-going project is to assist the ushers at St Raymond's Church with the St. Vincent De Paul food drive at all masses during the first weekend of each month. There will be several upcoming opportunities to participate in a service project so all scouts should be able to find one or more which can fit into their schedule.
Anyone interested in upcoming service projects can contact Joe Ginley or any of the scout leaders. Remember service is a big part of scouting.

Religion

Reminders:

The Pope Pius XII Emblem is available to Catholic Scouts in grades 9 through 12.

The Ad Altarendei Classes are forming and will meet once a week.  This is open to Scouts in grades 7 through 12.

The Rosary Patch is available to all Scouts and their families - just pray for World Peace and return the completed sheets by 12/19.

For Questions regarding any of the above programs, please contact Janet Fusswinkle at 593-9849.
